France – Le Trois Croix

Not sure exactly what to say about this. First of all, it’s a hike, not a run. Second, it’s pretty amazing once you’re up on the top. However, getting there can be challenging. Didn’t help that I did it on an excessively hot day. Regardless, be prepared for steep inclines, exposed areas with chains to help pull you up (or control the descent on the downhill) along with steel rebar “steps”. Highly discourage doing this one by yourself.

France – Alps – Isola to Isola 2000

Always amazing to be in the Alps and do a Tour de France climb – always keeping in mid that this was a small part at the end of a long day at the end of a long Tour. Regardless, it’s challenging and rewarding and absolutely spectacular.

Var by Velo 25 – Le Rocher de Roquebrune

One of the longer rides in the Var by Velo catalogue, it doesn’t get pretty until you’re over the A8. Then it turns beautiful as you head into the countryside. Pictures don’t really do the vibrant red rock mountains justice but it’s amazing.

Australia – Manly – North Head

Absolutely magical run and used to be my go to lunch run when living in Manly. There’s something truly spectacular about the Sydney Headlands and Sydney Harbour. In addition there’s a lot of history in this area from World War II and it’s a fantastic place to watch Sydney to Hobart if you’re there at that time.

California – Santa Monica Mountains – Los Liones to Parker Mesa

Fantastic, interesting and sometimes difficult run. Starting on the lower Los Liones trail, you have a relatively busy singletrack that’s absolutely stunning. Once you get up to East Topanga Fire Road things get more vertical but you’re rewarded with a tremendous view – especially on a sunny day. Once upon a time this was my lunch run from Palisades.

California – Santa Monica Mountains – Trailer Canyon

An absolutely brutally beautiful trail. Starts after a long drive up into the back canyons of Pacific Palisades and climbs to link up with the Temescal system to the right and everything else – including Hub Junction to the left. Go left!
