Europe – France – Cassis Calanques
An amazing part of the world – Cassis is right on the edge of the Parc national des Calanques which is a dramatic set of inlets along the Med.

Beautiful and somewhat challenging run on Vis delving into the island’s past (it was a restricted military base until 1989) – including this former nuclear command bunker.
Nice trail out of SYRA up towards the back side of Camino Cielo looking back to the valley. Tough trail but rewarding and if you go all the way to the top you can check out Knapp’s Castle.
Beautiful flat run along the coastline in Cottesloe down to North Freemantle. Can be hot and is always exposed so sun protection and lots of water is a must.
Another great Santa Ynez Recreational Area trail. This one heads up on the “ocean” side towards Camino Cielo and – if you make it to the top – rewards you with amazing views,. Heavily exposed so take proper precautions appropriate to the weather.
Nice trail but I had a terrifying experience taking the wrong line above the falls. Do your research and looks for any ropes or hand holds to guide you.
Amazing trail in the Santa Barbara Front Country. I ran this before the San Ysidro bridge had been rebuit but they’d fortified some of the debris basins. Starts in a valley along a river but then goes vertical climbing out of the canyon to Camino Cielo. Second half is exposed but views are tremendous.
Relatively short trail in SYRA. Long way to go for a 5k but a nice start along a dry river, then climbs up to the top of the bluff before dropping down some singletrack back home. Nice run.,
The new local go-to. Took a bit of way finding but nice trail with good mix of terrain and topography.
Nice, convenient trail that starts just behind Carpenteria High School. It winds up the hill and is relatively busy heading up to Frank’s Bench. After that you can continue to do the full 26km or so to the top (or close to the top) of the Santa Ynez mountains.
